Review highlights
Based on 401 reviewsMercado Torito y Taqueria is widely praised for its authentic Mexican cuisine, emphasizing traditional flavors without typical Americanized sides. Reviewers consistently highlight the quality and variety of tacos, tortas, and gorditas, along with a flavorful, spicy salsa bar featuring unique additions like pickled onions. The establishment’s dual role as a grocery store and butcher shop offering both cooked and seasoned uncooked meats by the pound is also appreciated. Patrons note the friendly service and homey atmosphere, despite the modest and unassuming exterior. Some feedback mentions the food can be quite spicy, but overall, the restaurant is regarded as a hidden gem that attracts repeat visits for its genuine, satisfying Mexican fare.
Friendly, clean, and super food. This is real Mexican food, so no french fries, taquitos, or crunchy tacos. They have a tasty and spicy salsa bar that includes pickled onions! Delicious. Hubby loved the beef street tacos, the tortas and gorditas are also wonderful. They sell the seasoned uncooked meat by the pound as well as cooked by the pound, so so awesome! Went back and it was still delicious, still terrific, and I had the carnitas platillo which was soooo good, my new favorite!
We had some amazing tacos and tortas. Very delicious! Definitely coming back again!
Food is great, just a lil too spicy
Small and old place has som of the best Mexican food I have had in many years. Very friendly people. We will be going back if just for take out.
INCREDIBLE tacos! Although I live closer to some of the top-ranked taco shops in Dallas, I will forever return to this tiny East Texas gem. As you pull up to Oviedo's, don't be put off by the rough exterior. Walk through the door, pass through the convenience store area in the front, and head back to place your order at the counter of the small carniceria (butcher shop) and taqueria (Mexican restaurant specializing in tacos and burritos). Most of the menu is written in Spanish (a good sign that you're about to eat something delicious), but there are English translations on the board and the sweet ladies behind the counter speak English very well (an important note if you only speak English yourself!). While there are several options on the menu, I have only had the tacos (many, many tacos) and they are phenomenal. These are real, no frills tacos with meat, pico de gallo, and limes. The red and green salsas provided are also excellent. My favorite meat by far is the pastor, but you can't go wrong with anything you select. If you're in the area and you love authentic tacos, make time to stop in here!
Got a Cubana, fajita torta and burrito. All the food was great. No idea why it was empty when we went, the food was great. Good portions too
Probably some of the best Mexican food i’ve had, the meat was a slightly odd, deep red color, but after i took a bite, my worries disappeared, not to mention, the salsas were also amazing, HIGHLY recommended!
Just found this place and I have to say that the two times I've been there, it has been consistently good. From the cooks behind the line, the gentleman asking how can he help me, to the exceptional courteous cashier at the front. The food is delicious, and the portions are generous. With the added plates and other options they offer, there has been a menu upgrade. Enjoy!
